Perspective

Twenty years ago, God gave a certain man the vision to build a quiet retreat, deep in the woods and high in the mountains. This place would be a sanctuary, established as a natural and spiritual refuge for generations to come. A harbour for wayfaring strangers to come for rest. A well in the wilderness where those seeking living water, might come, and find stillness to hear the voice of God.

The vision came in 1983, over the pages of an open Bible in the dark morning hours, to a man in prayer. A few years later, having committed himself to the fulfillment of the vision, the Lord made it possible for the man to sell his business and move with his family to the mountains of North Carolina to search for a retreat site. Again, God provided, and the original 250 acres were purchased and set apart for the purpose of offering a place for the active pursuit of the Presence of the Lord. After dedicating the land to God, volunteers began to build Quiet Reflections Retreat. Over the last decade, the labor and obedient service of many individuals have been tirelessly offered to and received by a loving God Who has consistently been faithful to guide the growth of this special place. From the first cutting of the road to the habitation of the buildings which now stand, the history and existence of Quiet Reflections is nothing short of a miracle.

The Prayer Chapel, the first building truly planned and erected on the mountain, now graces one of the best parts of the land.  The log structure firmly stands on a solid rock face, overlooking the Black Mountains and South Toe River valley.  Built with raw materials gathered from Retreat property, the Chapel exhibits fine Scandinavian design and hand-scribed poplar logs.

From the four alcoves, which represent the four Gospels of the New Testament, to the altar which measures 70" x 7" (Matthew 18:21-22), the Prayer Chapel exists as a physical reminder of God's enduring Grace.   The doors here are always open.
